TCarl Schneff the President of Hunger Inc. was presented a donation of $1000 to Hunger Inc. This year Hunger Inc. has serviced 3438 families to date and last year provided to only 3300 families.
Jeri Warner of Trusted Partners was presented a donation of $500. Trusted Partners matches volunteer mentors to help prevent homelessness. People without mentoring will revert back to homelessness because of depression, and isolation. Trusted Partners is working with inmates to help get them back on their feet and also helping people work through their mental health issues. This November Trusted Partners will become and independent agency.

The Kiwanis Club of Perry Township is a non-profit service organization whose mission is to respond to the unique needs of our community, particularly for children, young adults, the aging and the needy of Perry Township, the State of Indiana and the World. In our mission to support education we are proud to announce the awarding of seven scholarships to college bound High School students.
From Southport High School we are proud to recognize Chelsey Dreibelbis with a $1000 scholarship, and Samantha Eckler with a $500 scholarship. Chelsey is a member of the Southport Key club and is active in numerous school activities. Chelsey plans to attend the University of South Carolina and intends to study nursing. Samantha is a member of the National Honor Society, the Southport Key Club, and basketball team. Samantha plans to attend Purdue University and intends to study engineering.
From Perry Meridian High School we are proud to recognize Tial Tin Par with a $1000 scholarship, Theresa Seager with a $1000 scholarship, and Jacob Dobbs with a $500 scholarship. Tial plans to attend IUPUI where she intends to study computer science and eventually work for the United Nations. Theresa is a member of the Perry Meridian Key Club. Theresa plans to attend IVY Tech and intends to study accounting. Jacob was unable to attend because he is a member of Perry Meridian's Robotics Team and was at an out-of-state competition. Jacob plans to attend Ball State University.
From Roncalli High School we are proud to recognize David Holmes with a $1000 scholarship and Gretchen Ward with a $1000 scholarship. David plans to attend Marion College and intends to study business where he plans to eventually own his own golf course. Gretchen is active in band and the German Club. Gretchen plans to attend Rose-Hulman and intends to study civil engineering.

Kiwanis of Perry Township volunteers participated in Rebuilding Together Indianapolis, Seventh Annual Christmas in April project. There were 800 volunteers from the Indianapolis area who participated in the one day work blitz. Volunteers helped give 21 homes free home repair. These repairs included new landscape, house painting both inside and out, a new roof, new kitchen and bathroom installation, and new heating and cooling systems. Work done by these volunteers and the Rebuilding Together Indianapolis organization will help to restore pride in the neighborhood and decrease crime.

The Kiwanis Club of Perry Township made a
financial contribution to Perry Township Religious Education
Association (PTREA). Ms.
Nancy Park accepted our contribution of $900 for the Perry Township
Religious Education Association, which provides religious education
to children in
PTREA began in 1975 to provide religious education to children in Perry Township. Classes provide basic instruction about the Bible and about making Christian choices.

children and communities

WHAT:
- The Kiwanis Club of Perry Township is celebrating Kiwanis International’s newest service initiative, Kiwanis One Day, joining 600,000 other Kiwanians in a day dedicated to community service.
- The club will be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner to the residents of the Ronald McDonald House of Indianapolis. We will be joined by volunteers from the Southport Key Club, Perry Meridian Key Club and employees of Kohl’s.
- Kiwanis One Day is a global volunteer action day celebrated around the world by the entire Kiwanis International family including Kiwanis, Circle K, Key Club, Builder’s Club, Aktion Club, K-Kids and Kiwanis Junior.
- 10 volunteers from the Kiwanis Club of Perry Township joined nearly 600,000 volunteers internationally in devoting to hands-on service projects around the community, contributing to nearly one million service hours in just one day!
- Kohl’s donated $800 in Teddy bears and
books to be given to the children at the Ronald McDonald House.

Perry Township Kiwanis club is participating in the Read Around the World campaign. We are reading to groups of fourth and fifth grade students at Winchester Village Elementary School.

Perry Township Kiwanis club provided bath towels to the Peoples Burn Foundation “Extinguish the need” campaign.
The program provides any family or individual that loses a home and/or possessions to fire, is referred to Peoples Burn Foundation. The program is free of charge with an objective to literally replace all necessary household items and furnishings to help the family move past the tragedy and move forward in life.

The Kiwanis club of Perry Township is proud to announce the giving of $1000.00 in gift cards from Wal-Mart to the Perry Township School Corporation social services.
The gift cards will be used to purchase items for
the school children of Perry Township. These items include
shoes, socks, shirts, pants, and shoes. Other items could
include personal care items, alarms clocks, and school supplies.

Perry Township Kiwanis Club Fish Fry, held July 20-21 at the Baxter YMCA. The 40-member Kiwanis club raises 85% of its annual budget from the Fish Fry.
The money is used to fund various community service projects throughout the year. The Kiwanis club sponsors service clubs at Perry Township schools, with a Key Club at Southport H.S., and a K-Kids club at Rosa Parks-Edison Elementary. Several groups sent volunteers to help with the Fish Fry, including the Perry Meridian HS Key Club, University of Indianapolis Circle K club, Capitol City Aktion Club, Boy Scouts, Perry Twp. The Kiwanis club of Perry Township is proud to
announce its financial support to local organizations.
Sandy Howard was present at our Thursday meeting
to accept a $500 award to the Perry Township Education Foundation.
The Perry Township Education Foundation is a grant making
organization that raises funds to support innovative and creative
programs that enhance learning throughout Perry Township public
schools on Indianapolis' south side. The Perry Township
Education Foundation (PTEF) is a non-profit educational foundation
founded in 1994 by 13 interested community leaders. Originally
proposed by the school corporation's superintendent, PTEF serves
public school students, teachers, administrators, and staff in the
Metropolitan School District of Perry Township.
Charlotte Shoulders was present at our Thursday
meeting to accept a $250 award to Reach for Youth.
Reach for Youth is a source
of hope for youth, their families and the community in time of need.
Whether it be a mother who is concerned about her child's path, a
teacher who is having trouble with discipline or a teen who feels
that the world isn't fair and is fighting back. They show youth how
to constructively resolve conflicts with their peers. Show support
for families through their grief over the loss of loved ones and of
schoolmates. They help parents communicate better with their
children. They help kids understand rules, structure, and respect
authority.

accept a $500 award to Trusted Partners.
Trusted Partners is a
citywide mission of Immanuel UCC to address the causes of
homelessness and thereby prevent it. Trusted Partners utilizes
volunteer mentors to support the work of people currently served by
6 homeless prevention programs throughout the city. Trusted Partners
forms relationships of trust and support with volunteer mentors and
participants in homeless prevention programs. This relationship
assists in developing friendships and assisting individuals and
families as they strive to remain housed and become self-sufficient.

The Kiwanis Club of Perry Township is proud to
announce its 25th Anniversary. The Club celebrated its
'birthday' on May 17 at its regular weekly breakfast meeting at the
IHOP on US 31 South. The Club was chartered on May 22, 1982 by
the South Side Kiwanis Club. Bob Carroll, who was President of
the South Side Club in 1982, was a special guest of the Perry
Township Kiwanians at their celebration.
The original Kiwanis Club was founded in 1915 in
Detroit Michigan. The Kiwanis International organization comprises
600,000 adult and youth Kiwanians who are members of 15,000 clubs in
90 countries and geographic areas. Kiwanians make their mark by
responding to the needs of their communities and pooling their
resources to address worldwide issues.
We are also proud to recognize Perry Township
Kiwanians’ years of service to Kiwanis. Kiwanians who have
reached five years of service to Kiwanis are: Shirley Branham,
Jeannie Clyngenpeel, Tony Cooper, Joan Harrell, Bryon Mathis, Linda
Melton, Ron Speedy, and Michael Taylor.
Kiwanians who have reached ten years of service to
Kiwanis are Frances Booher and George Soukup. Kiwanians who
have reached 15 years of service to Kiwanis are Jack Knarr and
Charyl Winner. Kiwanians who have reached 25 years of service
to Kiwanis are Les Branham, Jerry Karwowski, and Ken Wheeler.
A very special Kiwanian who has reached 35 years of service to
Kiwanis is Clyde Fields. Jerry Karwowski and Ken Wheeler are
founding members of the Perry Township Kiwanis Club.

The Kiwanis club of Perry Township is proud to
announce the awarding of six $500 scholarships to five deserving
young men and women. The Scholarship recipients are from
Southport High School, Perry Meridian High School, and Roncalli High
School.
Mathew Crosson from Perry Meridian High School was
presented with two scholarships. Mathew plans to attend
University of Indianapolis and study Special Education and Physical
therapy. Emily Hovenstine from Southport High School plans to
attend Indiana University and study Math Education, Spanish and
Physics. Anders Martin Kilmark from Roncalli High School plans
to attend Indiana University. His goal is to become an
orthopedic surgeon to help children with orthopedic problems.
Christopher Purvis from Southport High School plans to study
Environmental Sciences. Maryrose Brown from Roncalli High
School plans to attend Ball State and study Architecture.
